The Ultimate Guide to Content Repurposing

Repurposed content is content that is either re-worked so that it becomes an entirely new piece, or content that is delivered to a new audience. There are many reasons to do this. One is to get more mileage out of the content that you create. The other is to communicate the same thing in different ways so that users with different learning styles will benefit. Finally, content repurposing is a great way for companies who do not have the resources to publish new content as regularly as they would like to be a bit more prolific in their blogging efforts. Keep reading for a couple of different content repurposing options, and suggestions on another way to produce more content.

Repurposing Through New Promotion Efforts

This is probably the most efficient way to repurpose your content. You simply take previous content that you have published and promote it again using social media channels. This is a very effective technique if events have happened that cause a renewed interest in a specific topic that you have covered. These events might included increased conversation among your audience about a certain topic, or even news events that create a renewed sense of relevance. You can also promote older content simply by linking to it, when it makes sense, in your newer posts.

Repurposing Content Into Something New

There are many ways that you can use to take old content and turn it into something new. Text based blog posts can be turned into infographics using online tools. You can also take that same content and produce a video to be uploaded onto Youtube or your website. There is also a good chance that you have content that you have never posted online. Powerpoint presentations that you have created for sales and marketing purposes can be uploaded and released as new content. If you publish a print or email newsletter, you can reuse some of that content as blog posts. Another option that you have is to use your instagram photos and posts to create visual blog posts. If you use snap chat, you can also upload your pictures to create a snap chat story.

Crowdsourcing Content

This is not the same thing as repurposing content, however it bears mentioning, because it is a way to boost the amount of content that you are providing to your followers. Crowdsourcing content is simply asking your followers to provide content for you. For example, if you ran a website selling pet supplies, you could hold a contest for the cutest dog or cat. You offer the winner a small prize, ask people to submit pictures, and ask your followers to vote. In return, you get engagement, visual content, interaction, and shares.

Rewriting Content

Sometimes, existing blog posts can be rewritten so that they appeal to a different segment of your customer base. For example, if you posted a very elementary blog post, you might be able to rewrite that content for members of your user base who are a little more advanced.
